If you are in northern Arizona like Flagstaff, Prescott, Pinetop-Lakeside, Payson, Greer, Mt Lemon areas or any of the other mountain towns we have that are over 6000 feet, we get snow in the Winter. The San Francisco peaks are in northern Arizona and Flagstaff area and are over 12000 feet high. Yes, we have tons of snow up there and we even have ski resorts! Now if you are in Southern Arizona like Tucson, or Phoenix or Yuma, or other areas of the Sonoran desert, you will most likely not see snow. If we get a good cold spell, in the 44 years I’ve lived in Arizona and grown up here, I’ve seen snow in the desert about 4 times and it was a rare treat and extremely cold outside. You will find snow in the surrounding mountains at times, when northern Arizona has had a good snow fall. But, essentially, Southern Arizona is a desert. The desert does get mighty cold in the Winter though, and people have died from exposure due to getting lost while hiking or camping in this winter cold. But with urban sprawl, global warming and the heat island effect from all the concrete, it doesn’t get as cold as it used to.

Update 2/3/21 I live in Prescott, AZ. We get snow on occasion in general as we are in the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs AFC Conference Championship 2022-2023 Shirt in contrast I will get this mountains, forest and at 5600 feet. Here are some pics from a recent set of storms that passed through within the past week. The area along Main St and the Light Rail fro. Tempe to downtown is a little sketchy with some cheap motels where the homeless hang out. But for the most part it is very safe. It has a large Mormon population which is very community oriented. Limited night life though. Basically Middle to Upper Middle Class with some Blue Collar neighborhoods. It’s pretty nice, I would live there again. When I was a kid growing up in Michigan and Ohio I dreamed of living out west. Mountains and canyons just appealed to me and so did deserts! I started visiting Colorado and Arizona among other Western States all around the west back in the late 80s. Fell in love with Colorado! Arizona was a close second. Colorado has better mountains, and Arizona has better deserts but they both contain deserts and they both contain mountains. Flash forward to just a year ago and we made the move to from Ohio to Arizona. Multiple reasons. Arizona was cheaper and the ability to find many different climates within a small range of driving. I used to love snow but being older now I don’t like it as much. Like to see it during Christmas only! Here in Arizona I can drive an hour and a half to get to the mountains see my snow come back home with temperatures much warmer, and I can easily get to Colorado for a visit to the Rockies. Both states offer enormous beauty.
